Beacons by position: Jernegan goes with the flow
FB: Sophomore tight end looks to build on breakout season
Seventh in a series of nine position previews leading up to the Valparaiso football season opener on Aug. 31.
When Evan Jernegan first arrived on Valparaiso’s campus in the fall of 2021, there was nothing particularly memorable about his appearance.
He looked like he was pulled straight from central casting for what a former high school football player would look like. Standing at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, Jernegan blended in with the rest of his teammates.
Then the California native traded in trips to the barber shop for trips to the weight room. Over the course of his redshirt season, Jernegan added inches to his hair and pounds to his frame. The metamorphosis continued during a breakout season in 2022 where started sprinkling in key catches and a pair of touchdowns to his resume.

Now, entering his sophomore season, Jernegan stands out on the field, both with his look and with his play.
