My memory of year one will mainly be a mix of reading your in-depth game recaps and articles in which you were able to stretch out and write a bit more like a fan, all the while seeing you be excited about your new venture, continuing to be passionate in the work and admiring your flexes as you took on more "off-beat" articles, such as the Art-Psych building piece, which is among my favorites. As a news junkie, I also bow to your being among the pioneers of this new form of niche journalism. I don't know how deep into the newspaper archives of the NWI Times or Post-Tribune one would have to dig in order to find as many articles on VU sports in a given year as you've published here. And that's not even addressing the value of having one dedicated journalist covering a beat that he knows very well.
My only disappointment is that more folks aren't signing up for paid subscriptions. This, I'm afraid, is the lingering effect of how people became conditioned years ago to expect any online news or commentary to be freely accessible, without thinking that journalists should be paid for their work. Nevertheless, I hope that more readers will understand the value that you've created and support this worthy endeavor accordingly.
Keep it up, PO. Your stories are much needed with the demise of both papers. I hope you obtain more subscribers who will soon realize that $49.99 for an entire year is a very good deal. Thank you for all you do.
