VALPARAISO - There was a moment during Saturday afternoon’s epic three-set comeback when Lacey Tanner told herself that today was going to be different.

It may have come when the Valparaiso sophomore first took the court at No. 3 singles against Drake’s Shiori Takeda. It might have been when Tanner dropped a 7-4 tiebreak at the close of the first set. It’s more likely her internal pep talk came when Tanner fell behind 5-0 in the second set and the Florida native was down to her last hope.
