VALPARAISO - It might have taken a half to truly get rolling, but the Valparaiso football team made school history during a season-opening victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Beacons routed Virginia Lynchburg 67-10 at Brown Field, setting the program record for most points in a season opener in the process. Valparaiso led 26-10 at the half, but used a 35-0 third quarter to pull away from the Dragons.

In an opposite of some recent season openers where Valparaiso was the underdog taking on bigger FCS programs, the Beacons came into Saturday’s game heavily favored and they executed.
