Way-Too-Early Look at 2024 Valpo Women's Soccer
WSOC: Large recruiting class set to join the Beacons next fall
One of the more heartbreaking - if not realistic - moments in a sports film comes at the end of Friday Night Lights.
In the days following the championship loss, the audience is shown a montage of where members of the Permian football team went with their lives. As we learn that Mike Winchell spent a year at Baylor and Boobie Miles eventually returned to the field, we also get a moment of Permian coach Gary Gaines in his office.
Gaines looks over a magnetic depth chart and slowly begins removing the nameplates of the departed seniors. The instrumental score from Explosions in the Sky starts slow and continues to build until the final name is removed and Gaines has replaced all of the placards with new players. Gaines turns away from the board and the film fades to black.
Whether its high school football, college soccer or any other level of sport, the hard truth is that when one season ends, another begins.
This is the reality facing John Marovich and the Valparaiso women’s soccer program. On Saturday night the Beacons reached the pinnacle, facing Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA tournament in front of hundreds of Valpo supporters. On Monday morning, the journey started all over again.
With next season still 10 months away, there are far more questions than answers as to what the Beacons will look like for the season opener. Here is a way-too-early look at the 2024 Valparaiso women’s soccer team.
