The old is new for a trio of returners

MBB: Barrett, DeAveiro and Palm are three lone holdovers from last season

Connor Barrett kept attacking the basket on the north end of the Hilltop Gym at the Athletics-Recreation Center during a mid-June workout.

The Valparaiso senior was matched up against Murray State transfer Jaxon Edwards in a 1-on-1 drill as first-year head coach Roger Powell shouted encouragement alongside new assistant coaches Pat Baldwin and A.J. Moye.

On the south end of the court, fellow senior Jerome Palm was locked in a battle with Hofstra transfer Lual Manyang and Central Michigan transfer Ola Ajiboye under the watchful eye of new assistant coach Matt Gordon.

Darius DeAveiro had already wrapped up another day of practice battles with John A. Logan transfer Isaiah Stafford as he awaits the arrivals of Jahari Williamson and Sherman Weatherspoon IV, a pair of incoming freshmen point guards.

For Valparaiso’s three returners, everything that is old is new again.
