The humanity of sports coverage
Column: Are human moments allowed in sports media?
I know how I’m supposed to feel.
I know I’m supposed to get on my journalistic high horse and shout down the Jacksonville reporter that offered support to first-year coach Liam Coen after Sunday’s loss to Buffalo.
I know everything I’ve been taught during my journalism career and everything I teach to my journalism students comes down to the fact that you’re not there to be a cheerleader for the team you cover.
There’s even a book written by the great Chicago journalist Jerome Holtzman entitled “No Cheering in the Press Box.”
I know all of this, and yet, I’m not here to brandish my pitchfork in the name of journalistic objectivity.
