Swedlund scores first collegiate point in Valpo victory
WBB: Beacons knock off Goshen on Monday night as young point guards gain more experience
VALPARAISO - The result was already well in hand by the time Bella Swedlund stepped to the free throw line with 24 seconds remaining in Valparaiso’s nonconference tilt against Goshen on Monday night.
The scoreboard showed the Beacons were up 30 over the Maple Leafs, but the outcome wasn’t important to anyone on the Valparaiso sideline. What mattered was cheering on their teammate.
Swedlund spun the ball in her hand and then took one dribble before hoisting up a successful free throw for the first collegiate point in her career. The third-year guard provided the explanation point in Valparaiso’s 72-41 victory at the Athletics-Recreation Center and her teammates mobbed her as the buzzer sounded.
