Scroggins continues Don Bosco pipeline
MBB: Incoming freshman the latest to commit to Valparaiso
Once the dust was settled following Roger Powell’s hiring as Valparaiso’s new men’s basketball coach, the former assistant got to work rekindling old relationships.
One of his first visits was to Don Bosco Prep in Crown Point. Powell had a strong connection with Don Bosco founder Dave Maravilla and coach Niko Panousis dating back to Powell’s days as a Valpo assistant when Bosco product David Skara was on the roster.
It was on that visit in late April that 6-foot-8 forward Lucas Scroggins caught the eye of Powell. Following a recruitment that spanned nearly three months, Scroggins verbally committed to the Beacons earlier this week.
He becomes the second Don Bosco product to join Valpo’s roster this offseason, joining Central Michigan transfer Ola Ajiboye.
