Schmidt coming home to Valpo

MBB: NAIA All-American will finish collegiate career with the Beacons

Tyler Schmidt grew up going to basketball camps at the Athletics-Recreation Center and looking up to the Valparaiso men’s basketball players.

Now the Valparaiso native will get the chance to be one of those players and the two-time NAIA Second Team All-American hopes to inspire a new generation of players in his hometown.

Schmidt announced his verbal commitment to the Beacons on Tuesday afternoon. The 6-foot-4 guard comes to Valparaiso with one season of eligibility after spending the last four years at Olivet Nazarene where he was the two-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
