Long before Charles Small was a three-time graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and an accomplished athletics administrator at Arkansas and Iowa State, he was one of the shortest college basketball players in the country. Small spent four years with the Panthers and was a member of the active roster as a walk-on from 2003-06. He played just 19 minutes in 18 games during that stretch, but was an Oakland Zoo favorite.

In the latest edition of Five Questions, Valparaiso’s new athletic director talks about his experience as a student-athlete and what lessons he took away from his playing career. The first question was asked during Thursday’s media event while the other four questions were later asked in a one-on-one setting.
