Preston gets fresh start with the Beacons
WBB: What's old is new again for Valparaiso junior forward
Kayla Preston watched as some of her closest friends walked out the door last spring.
In the days following Mary Evans’ departure as the head coach of the Valparaiso women’s basketball program, a slew of players hit the transfer portal.
Lexi Castator was gone, eventually signing with USC Upstate. Layla Gold departed and followed former Valpo assistant coach Jon Hill to Oakland. Nevaeh and Saniya Jackson also left and landed at Butler.
All four players hit the portal before Courtney Boyd was even hired. They didn’t stick around long enough to see what the new coach had to say.
Preston listened and then she stayed.
