Kayla Preston has wanted to earn a Division I basketball scholarship for as long as she can remember.
It is a goal that began to take shape at the age of five, shortly after Preston picked up a basketball for the first time. Preston has carried that dream with her while growing up in Omaha and she carried it with her throughout a high school career that culminated with a 23-3 senior season and a trip to the state semifinals.
Preston got close to her goal in the first week of April when she verbally committed to Valparaiso as a walk-on after taking a campus visit. That goal came to fruition last week when Preston was offered a scholarship by Valpo, becoming the fifth newcomer to join the Class of 2023.
