Norfolk's header lifts Valpo to 2-0 start
WSOC: Coryell's 20th career shutout moves her into tie for second place in program history
VALPARAISO - Nothing was coming easy for the Valparaiso women’s soccer team on Sunday afternoon.
Northern Illinois was unrelenting in its attack, the temperature was hovering near 90 degrees and the Beacons were even more shorthanded than they were in Thursday’s season opener.
The tide suddenly turned for the Beacons in the 61st minute when fifth-senior Nicole Norfolk headed in a perfectly-placed corner kick from Allie Anderson to give Valparaiso a 1-0 lead at Brown Field. Valpo’s defense closed out the final third of the match to send the Beacons to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2017.
