Lual Manyang never gave up. The reason was simple. Giving up just wasn’t an option.
Not when Manyang left his siblings, his home and everything he’d known when he moved from South Sudan, Africa to the United States, to a country where he didn’t know the language to play a sport he was just learning.
A torn ACL here. A torn hamstring there. Throw in a global pandemic for good measure.
Despite all the obstacles, Manyang was never going to give up on his dream of becoming a Division I basketball player. A dream he partially realized when he enrolled at Hofstra last year and a dream he’ll finally be able to taste after verbally committing to Valparaiso on Wednesday afternoon.
