Homers and Heroics: A Beautiful Day for the Beacons
Valpo Baseball digs the long ball while Softball seniors walk it off in thrilling afternoon
VALPARAISO - Kaleb Hannahs lifted a blast to left field and then hoped like hell the ball was going over the fence. Regi Hecker knew right away that her hit sealed the deal for the Beacons.
The two seniors delivered when their teams needed them most on Saturday and their heroics led to a pair of thrilling victories for the Valparaiso baseball and softball teams.
Hannahs went 4-for-4 and added a solo shot in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie. The Beacons would add four more runs in the eighth to knock off Evansville 8-4 in a must-win game.
Hecker completed a magical comeback for the Beacons just under 90 minutes later as Valpo erased a 4-0 deficit in the final two innings of the game. Hecker’s single through the hole at first allowed fellow senior Alexis Johnson to score, setting off a wild celebration.
It was an amazing turn of events for a pair of programs that needed victories on Saturday.
