There are two ways to look at the first five games of the season for the Valparaiso women’s basketball team. The outsider might look at the results and see five losses. Valpo women’s basketball coach Mary Evans looks at the five games and sees five opportunities for continued growth.

The Beacons entered the start of the 2023-24 season with the challenge of infusing six new freshmen and a graduate transfer point guard into a roster that featured eight returners who have played a lot of college basketball. Five games in, there have been plenty of bumps, but enough glimpses of growth that has Evans eager to come to the gym every single day.

Ahead of Sunday’s game at Purdue, Evans sat down with The Victory Bell for the first installment of Four Quarters.
