CEDAR FALLS - An offseason of preparation gave way to 60 minutes of execution for the Valparaiso football team on Saturday afternoon.

There was some good.

Michael Mansaray showed off his big-play ability while Sam Johnson showed off his big leg.

There was some bad.

Northern Iowa dominated Valparaiso’s defense to the tune of 365 rushing yards.

There was some ugly.

The Beacons continually shot themselves in the foot with a variety of penalties.

In the end, Saturday’s 35-7 loss to Northern Iowa now serves as the starting point for the 2024 Beacons and the work to improve started immediately after the final whistle in Iowa.
