Valparaiso released its roster for the 2022 football season on Tuesday afternoon. 117 players are listed as part of the program.
There are plenty of big players, including 6-foot-7, 345-pound offensive lineman Andrew Covert, and plenty of small players, including 5-foot-5, 130-pound wide receiver Chuck Maxwell.
The Beacons have players from 26 states with Illinois (24), Ohio (14), Michigan (13), California (10) and Indiana (8) leading the way. The roster features 55 offensive players, 57 defensive players and five specialists.
Valparaiso’s roster is filled with plenty of youth as 51 true freshmen have reported for camp. They’ll join 18 redshirt freshmen, many of whom appeared in a handful of games last year. The NCAA recently changed the rule allowing players to appear in up to four games and still receive a redshirt season. For example, quarterback Mason Kaplan played in two games in 2021 and is still considered a redshirt freshman. There are only three true sophomores on the roster and they’ll join 10 redshirt sophomores in the Class of 2025. There are 11 juniors and 12 redshirt juniors while Anthony Sciarroni is listed as the only true senior on the roster. There are 10 redshirt seniors listed as well as two fifth-year seniors and two sixth-year seniors.
